Paris Airport Transfer Family of 5

Hello and Bonjour,

We are a family of 5 (kids 19,16 &12) traveling from States to CDG Paris in June. I want our arrival to go as smoothly as possible (I aim to anticipate and organize what I can - I know travel is hectic etc and things will go wrong). I want to have a plan in place to get family to our accommodations upon arrival - currently scheduled for 10am. We have gotten conflicting advice....private transport (pre arranged) vs. taxi. As a family of 5 is there a flat rate option and taxi large enough to accommodate us or since we are larger is private transfer a better option. We will be staying in Le Marais.

Thank you

go to the official taxi queue (don't let anyone flag you down in the terminal those are scammers) Get in line and when you are at the head the dispatcher will put you in a van cab suitable for your family size. The cost will be 50 Euro plus 4 Euro for the 5th passenger so 54 Euro. No tip is required; if the driver assisted with luggage and was otherwise helpful I give a couple of Euro; this fall when I had an arm in a cast and the driver came into the lobby of the apartment and got my bags and was just very helpful, I gave 5.

when returning to the airport order a cab the night before on the G7 English speaking line; there is a 7 Euro reservation fee in addition to the flat 54 for your family.

It is helpful to have the address written down for the driver including postal code. 75004 in your case.

Transfer Shuttles are not popular in Paris and usually draw much criticism. However, we've successfully used Shuttle Inter on several occasions, and they've always been there to meet us on time and deliver us to hotels and also from hotels to train stations.

Most private car services would charge double or even more for the same service that a Parisien taxi would provide.
It's not worth the money to have someone stand outside the Customs exit just holding a card with your name on it.
Just follow the overhead signs to the official TAXI stand, and don't be tempted to go with anyone who offers you "a good deal" - because it won't be.
Remember that legitimate taxi drivers never leave their vehicle.

Another vote in support of what Janet and Chexbres have said -- you don't want to pre-hire someone, it actually makes it more difficult, especially if your flight ends up delayed. Save yourself the trouble and just go to the official taxi stand. With the set prices, there are no unpleasant surprises these days.

I agree that shuttles do not generally have a good reputation in Paris and I also agree that a transfer arranged by your hotel will cost more because a car service (not a taxi) will be sent. Is your family tall? I ask because I have a very tall family and the last time that we were in Paris as a group of five (with my volleyball playing niece), we had an extremely uncomfortable ride into Paris. The regular taxis are really for three people and can seat four if one person sits in the front. The taxi dispatcher put us into a car that was just too small. He would not put us in the two larger taxis in line because he gave that naturally them to two groups of six so we sat squished together all the way to the 15th Arrondissement.
When I or my husband travel on business, both of our employers insist on having us picked from any airport in the world with a private car. As a result, I have arrived at CDG many times to be greeted by a person holding a sign with my name right outside of customs and frankly, it is great. The driver helps with the luggage at the airport and the hotel the car is parked just across from the taxi line. I have arrived as early an hour before scheduled arrival time and as late as 3 hours after scheduled arrival time and never had the driver not waiting by the door. That’s what the internet and online flight status checking is for. Of course, I have also taken taxis. For me it depends on the number of people– if I am alone (car service at my husband’s insistence); with one, two or three other people (a taxi), and more than three other people (a car service). In the scheme of the cost of a trip to France an extra 55 to 75 euros for a car service is not a deal breaker.
