We will be going to Paris in the Spring for the first time in 20 years. Someone told us about a hotel in the 9th Arr. I've been reading mixed reviews online about the area. I've always gotten the best suggestions from this forum. Looking for recommendations on where to stay. Thank you.
The 9th arrondissement is not one of the smaller ones and has a variety of areas. It is generally speaking a pretty busy area with good transit connections. I have read that it is more popular with Europeans than it is with Americans but I have no idea what basis the writer had for stating that. What are you looking for in the area that you wish to stay? And what about the 9th have you been reading that turns you off? That information will help people give you good recommendations.
What is the name and address of the hotel? You will get better responses with this information. Each arrondissiment in Paris has many streets and different "quartiers", each with its own unique character. So, walking from block to block you can experience entirely different atmospheres. The 9th is home to the Opera Garnier, Galleries Lafayette, Rue des Martyrs shopping street, the Grands Boulevards and Place Pigalle. It may not be as central as the arrondissiments closer to the river, but there are excellent transportation options, and it is where I am staying on my next visit.
When talking about an arrondissement it's always best to refer to metro stops. For a whole arrondissement "mixed reviews" doesn't mean much. The atmosphere in Paris can change from street to street.
Hi, last year we stayed in one of the Astotel hotels in the 9th Arr and we really enjoyed staying in this area. Half block to one metro stop and around two big blocks from another one.
We were closer to the Moulin Rouge than to the Opera Garnier but we could easily walk to it. I loved seeing families taking kids to school, people stopping at the boulangerie before work, nice area to stay. Many restaurants options, boulangeries, mini markets, laundromats, etc
Although I need to say that this time has been the one we used the metro the most due to not being close to most of the main attractions, The Eiffel Tower, The Louvre, Notredame, etc .
We could easily stay there again.
Have a great trip!
I stayed once in the 9th arrondissment, and it was very convenient to public transportation (metro)...it all just depends on what you want to do and see- but I felt it was a safe area to walk around in as well.
Happy Travels✨💫
I am most comfortable staying in the 5,6,7,8,15. More of a left bank person.
I wouldn’t choose to stay in the 9th. I much prefer the 4th... and after that, the 5th or 6th. I like being close to Notre Dame (the center of Paris) and the river.
The 4th, 5th and 6th is much more charming and less chaotic than the 9th, and has the same excellent transportation options. Also has parks, great cafés, restaurants, bakeries, etc.
Can’t generalize about the 9th. What street? What hotel?
We have friends in the 9th who live on a beautiful street of Haussmann buildings. Some areas are beautiful. However, whave stayed many times further north from our friends in the 9th in a beautiful building but on a gritty street with some gritty characters at night but with a foodie paradise two blocks away.
Need more specifics.
