Paris Trip, 7 days

My son, daughter and grand daughter will be going to Paris in August. We have 7 days, my son and I have been there once but daughter and grand daughter haven't been. We are staying in the 15th, Necker area, and want to take a high speed train to St Michelle on the coast. Is that doable in one day? And once we get off the train, how do we get to St Michelle?

Do you mean Mont St Michel? If so, there is no high speed train to get you there. You'd get as far as Rennes then use a bus. If you have just a week in Paris, you really don't have time for this.

As the previous poster said you can take the train to Rennes and bus to Mont-Saint-Michel. But, rather than that I'd take the train to Pontorson and then get a taxi to Mont-Saint-Michel - it's less than 1/2 hr by taxi from Pontorson. Either way it will be about 4 hrs transportation each way, which only leaves a very short visit to the Mont and personally, for me, it wouldn't be worth it. Mont-Saint-Michel is best done as an overnight on the island, but in your case that would take 2 days away from Paris, leaving you with 5 days in Paris. You'd have to weigh the pros and cons and decide if the Mont is really worth that to you and your family.

Thank you, yes I did mean Mont Saint Michel. I think you are right, we don't have time to go all the way out there in the 7 days we have in Paris. Thanks for your input!

You will use up your 7-days in Paris and still not see it all. Get the Navigo pass, metro, and bus everywhere. It even covers the RER if you choose to go to Versailles. It was great to have on hand. There is lots of good shopping in the 15th in the Commerce area. Curious as to why the Necker area.

The weather was wonderful last week. Very cool. You will find it very hot in August. Did you book a place with AC?

Thanks for the warning about the heat in August. I am not sure about the a/c. Actually our plans have changed since originally only 3 of us were going, now since there's 4 we are staying in a 3 bedroom apartment in the 3rd. I had to pay double but it will be worth it to be close to all the main museums, etc. We will get that transportation pass. Just the train to Versailles was going to be $58E each. Thanks again.

Where did you find this price? I would never use that source again.

Versailles is easily available from any RER C station in Paris, Gare Montparnasse or Gare St Lazare for just a few euros. Travel there is covered by and of the zone 1-5, Navigo passes, of which the weekly version costs 22.80€.

Wha?? It is 3.65 EUR per person each way from Paris for a point-to-point ticket.

I would definitely see if that apartment offers AC. If not, fans. It will be hot and the higher the floor, the hotter it gets. Nothing worse than being out all day in the heat, then returning to a hot apartment with little air movement. Just sayin.
