Review? Is it necessary to eat dinner or can you have a drink only? Is there music all night or at specific times?

I don't know about the Papa jazz club but when I lived in Paris I went to the Duc des Lombards, an excellent and very famous jazz club (the manager at the time was a friend) It's located on "des Lombards" street in the Halles neighborhood. There is no restaurant, just a bar. So no obligation to have dinner. But if you are hungry you can order a charcuterie board or a cheese board.
It's next to the Chatelet metro station.

In the same street, a few meters further, there is another jazz club "Le Baiser Salé". Also only a bar.
