Pantheon Panorama closed for renovations

When I didn’t see any options for purchasing Pantheon Panorama tickets on the website, I sent an email to find out whether this was temporary (since we won’t be traveling until summer). I received a response telling me that the Panorama access was closed due to renovation and that the website would be updated when renovation is complete. Although I asked about dates, none were mentioned in the reply. So first off, this is just an FYI for anyone planning a Paris trip in the near future.

Is the Pantheon worth visiting if panorama access is not available? We only have 5 days in Paris and I had been planning to visit on our first day, as I don’t like to book major attractions on arrival day and because the Pantheon is an easy walk from our hotel. (We went to the top of the Victor Emmanuel monument on our first day in Rome and loved the panoramic views— I thought this could be a similar experience.) I currently hope to visit the Cluny Museum and Luxembourg Gardens on arrival day, and thought I’d plan to spend the entire day on the Left Bank. Should I still plan on adding the Pantheon to my day 1 agenda, or think about substituting something else?

Ruth, the Panorama is always closed from November to March. Hopefully the restoration work will be completed by your visit.

I found the Pantheon to be worthwhile . Beautiful sculptures and artwork along with Focault's Pendulum. The crypt was fascinating. Seeing the final resting place of Rousseau, Madame Curie, Voltaire (well, part of him anyway) and more was a mini lesson in French history.

Voting with Jean, Ruth. We thought it was worthwhile as well. The building is interesting, and the list of individuals of national notoriety whose earthly remains rest there is interesting too.

I agree with Jean and Kate! I missed the crypt last October as they it was closed since they were getting ready to install someone the next week. I'll go back next trip since my Passion Monuments subscription will still be good and it's a place you don't need to book ahead.

Honestly, I'd play it by ear. See how you feel and whether you want to be indoors or out. The weather may help determine that. You may have enough with the Cluny and the Luxembourg Gardens. There are lots of little nooks and crannies to seek out in the Lux Gardens as well. I can't remember if I mentioned this on one of your threads or if it was someone else's but look for the small version of the Statue of Liberty and if interested find the area where there are beehives, tended by urban beekeepers! Apologies if that is a repeat.

On the way, walking between the Cluny and the Luxembourg Gardens is the remains of a Roman Well. It's in the Place du Sorbonne.

If you are already doing the Cluny and the Luxembourg gardens on arrival day, I think that will be plenty (in addition to arriving, checking in, getting settled, finding something to eat).....

And if you do decide you want to visit the Pantheon, it's right there. But I wouldn't force it on arrival day.
