Packing for provence

Hi
Often when I travel to Paris , London ,Rome , Venice, Florence I have mainly packed sun dresses and skirts trying to be
Appropriate for churches and cities. Our next trip is to Provence and we will be spending a large amount of time in small villages and cassis. Would
It be appropriate to wear
Shorts and capris or should I stick with sun dresses and skirts?

Thanks for your help

Liz

I assume you are traveling in warm weather months. At those times the towns and villages of Provence are filled with vacationers, who are dressed very casually, often in shorts or capris. Just have a scarf handy to cover your shoulders if you want to enter a church.

Hi, either is appropriate; select whatever let's you enjoy your vacation. I found that I still was wearing dresses because they were cooler in the hot weather and only wore capris when we were doing specific activities ~biking.

Shorts/capris are fine, especially in peak season where you'll look like most of the rest of the vacationers. Just remember a scarf or something to cover your shoulders when you enter a church.

Ben,

The French women look cute in skirts like when I was younger and biked to school. Now, not so much for me. : )

You will be fine in either dresses or shorts. It can be warm depending on when you go, My experience is in late September. Lots of the hill towns have beautiful churches where you may be more comfortable in a dress. My wife kept a sarong her day bag and wrapped it around her shorts when she felt the need for a dress. Check the weather. It can get chilly at night, especially when the wind blows. Have lunch on the Cassis harbor and then take a boat ride to see the Calanques, cliffs carved out by the Med. They have a short, medium and long version of these, each costing a little more. The medium one was enough for us. You didn't say where you are staying, but when we were there the further you are from the coast it is higher and the cooler it gets. I'm going back solo in September after taking my family there in 2013. Don't miss the Pont du Gard (going to canoe under it), Aix en Provence, Nimes, Arles, Orange and my biggest surprise, Gordes, which was recommended by a friend on the way to the airport. They have a cool market day if you can find out when it is. We rented six nights in a farmhouse in St. Remy just south of Avignon and did day trips like the spokes on a bike every day. Great location.

This was Rosie's contribution on your duplicate thread (now deleted):

Hello Liz. It's perfectly fine to wear shorts and capris there. I might even avoid skirts and dresses because the famous mistral winds could kick up and make for an embarrassing situation! It's a fairly casual region so don't feel like you have to get all dressed up unless you're maybe going to a nice dinner.
