Overnight suggestion between Bruges and Paris

My husband and I are traveling from Bruges to Paris beginning of May and would like to stop for the night along the way. We are interested in a small, quaint village to wander around, drink and eat. Thank you! Safe travels!!

Your question begs another one, how are you travelling between Brugge and Paris?
If you are travelling by train, it is a short journey (2½ to 3 hours) that is a quick trip, and does not lend itself to a stopover, but you could spend a night in Brussels where you have to change trains. That is hardly a small village.
Another option is Lille, again a city but it has convenient rail connections from Brussels and to Paris.

If you are travelling by car, that will take 4 hours, plus any delays, plus the detour to your small village. And you will have to find some way to loose the car at the edge of Paris (which uses up more time). In this case I would suggest a small town in the Champagne country, near Reims. Possible Epernay, or many others.

If you are travelling with the train finding the village you are looking for will not be easy. You can indeed overnight in Lille or Arras, the latter is a more smaller quaint town, both places are along the TGV line.
