A 3 day return trip to Paris and then a week enjoying Burgundy via bike, we'll be returning to Paris just to fly home. Would extend an overnight or two somewhere readily accessible by train, but am having difficulty finding such an option. Suggestions?
If you take the slow train from Dijon, you can stop at Montbard for Fontenay Abbey, Sens which has a beautiful cathedral (but not much else), and Fontainebleau (with a change of trains) for the castle, gardens and lovely town.
Joigny sits on the Yonne river and the Burgundy canal.
It's hard to see it as a 2-night stop unless you go to the Michelin 2-star restaurant La Côte St. Jacques.
Tonnerre, though in a economically challenged area just beyond the expansive Chablis growths, does have a hospice and the Fosse Dionne to see. It's on one of the numerous medieval St. Jacques pilgrimage paths.
Thanks for the responses. We decided to take the train to Lyon and enjoy a two night stay there.
