One evening and night in/near Paris

We will be returning to the States from Croatia and our AF flight from Zagreb was changed, so we now have an overnight in Paris before continuing home. We arrive CDG at 4:40PM on June 2nd and depart at 10:10AM on the 3rd. I would love some suggestions for that one evening and overnight - we are 3 women in our mid-60's coming home from hiking in Croatia.

I'm conservative about morning flights so I'd spend the night at one of the airport hotels, making it easier to be at the airline check-in by 7 AM. But you could have a memorable evening in Paris, especially if you can spring for taxis to and from the airport. I think the fare is 55 euros each way, not bad split among three people. Having left bags at the hotel, I'd take the taxi to the Arc de Triomphe, walk down Ave. Kleber to the Place Trocadero, have a memorable dinner there while the Eiffel Tower sparkles across the river, maybe stroll eastward along the river for awhile, then another taxi back to CDG. That's just one option, there are many of course.

The RER B train will get you into Paris a little faster and cheaper, but not as enjoyably. If that's your choice, I suggest taking it to the St-Michel stop to admire the view of Notre Dame (the intact part) across the river and have dinner nearby. Plenty of places to walk around, and maybe a river cruise from the Pont Neuf. And the Eiffel Tower is visible from lots of places in Paris, especially near the river.

There are many good ways to make a little lemonade from the lemon your airline has handed you. And hopefully you'll have a chance to return to Paris for the weeklong (or more) visit it deserves.

Thank you, Dick - your suggestions sound great! I haven't been to Paris since 1994, when I spent 10 days there with my then boyfriend, now husband. I couldn't stand the idea of spending the night without at least trying to see a few sights and having a delicious meal. Now our only challenge will be to stay awake long enough since we will be rising very early that morning to fly from Dubrovnik to Zagreb...
