Overlord Tours / D-Day Tour

I know it’s been reported many times, but we finally made it to Normandy and took the Overlord Tour out of Bayeux. It was a very special tour. And our young guide grew up in Bayeux and his family has been in the area for many generations so his personal stories and how they related to D-Day were a bonus.

The day before our full day tour I had injured my foot, and felt the full day tour we scheduled would be too much. They accommodated us with a half day tour and even offered a wheelchair. (Wouldn’t have really worked anywhere except the American Cemetery.)

It didn’t hurt that the weather was perfection. Cool temp, full sun and no wind. Our guide said it was the best day they’d had in a year!

I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it. We plan to take the full day tour in October. How far in advance did you buy your tickets? I don't want to buy them too soon, but also don't want to wait too long and miss out! Thanks.

Kathy, I booked about 3 months out because I knew the date I wanted to tour. You submit a request on the form on their website. Then they respond back to let you know if your date/tour is available. Then you confirm and give your credit card into. So it takes a couple of days to finalize.

I know my October date preference now and have hotel booked. I booked earlier this week. 6 months out is longer than I typically book day tours, but I did went ahead knowing the reputation of the company, popularity of the tour, booking process as noted above. See their cancellation policy also.

One less detail to remember to complete later!

We very much enjoyed our Overlord tour in October 2022. I booked or reservations on 9/29 for a tour on 10/15. If we were traveling in peak season I would have booked earlier.

I think the number of days you have available is a factor in deciding how early you need to book. If there's only one day when you can take the tour, that's different from being in Bayeux for 4 nights and having schedule flexibility.

Didn't want to start a new thread for it, but I had a similarly great experience with Overlord Tours in early June 2024. We did the full-day tour out of Bayeux, with focus on the American experience (including Omaha and Utah beaches, the American cemetery, etc.), and it was genuinely a highlight of my family's entire France vacation (me and my husband, both 50, daughter 16 and son 12). Our guide/driver, Oliver, was absolutely awesome -- extremely knowledgeable, a great storyteller, super-engaging. As sobering as the subject matter was, we had a great time and learned a lot. Highly, highly recommend this company.

We had Adam for 1/2 day tour in PM. Excellent! I learned so much. I can’t imagine renting a car and driving on those roads. Plus the education you get is priceless. Highly recommend Overlord!
