Overlord Tours at Normandy

August 2023
I wanted to celebrate my 60th birthday at Normandy. My family and I count ourselves very fortunate to have seen Rick's recommendation for Overlord Tours. We booked the all day Band of Brothers tour and had the best guide, Remy. He was outstanding. He had a lot of knowledge and was able to explain and tailor the experience with our varied levels of expertise on the topics of band of brothers and d-day. He was at all times considerate of our parties mobility and took care to make sure everyone was included in all of the stops. Camille was helping that day as well and assisted Remy throughout the day. They both made sure they were available at all times to take group pictures. They were friendly, positive and made it a very enjoyable day. They even went so far as to help us with a dinner reservation because of our poor French skills. Every stop of the tour was well worth it and I wish we could have had more time. Though our tour was only scheduled for 8 hours and took a little over 9 it was well worth it. A very well done experience and I hope that some day I could repeat it. I highly recommend this tour.

Welcome to the Forum and thanks for sharing your experience. Overlord Tours gets much love on this board.

I'm interested that you chose Normandy as the place for your 60th birthday. What made you choose that?

I have beena student of military history for a long time. I have enjoyed reading Stephen Ambrose and have always wanted to see the locations that I had read about. Point DuHoc, the American cemetary, the mulberry harbor, carentaan, caen and pegasus Bridge, the hedgerows and on.... I also wanted to do this while physical mobility made it possible. It lived up to my expectations.

Thanks for the response. I enjoy learning about military history, too. I went with a friend in 2017 or 2018, and in 2022, I took a teen who had spent 4 years in JROTC at his high school. Normandy is a place of amazing history. Just standing on Omaha Beach at low tide and seeing the distance that needed to be covered is rather eye-opening. Again, glad you got to do this trip.

What a wonderful way to celebrate your 60th birthday. We are four life-long friends who travel a lot together. We are in our 70's, and touring Normandy was on our bucket-list We are so glad we chose Overlord Tours. We selected the 2-day Overlord tour #7B which included Tour #2 (Omaha/Utah FDT) and Tour #2B (The Hedgerows Tour), since we were going to be in Bayeux for 3 days and wanted to see, remember, and learn as much as we could. These tours were incredible leaving us wishing we had more days in the area. First, our booking experience was very easy with information and updates provided. The vans were very clean and comfortable, and the itinerary left ample time for lunch on our own. Our tour guides were exceptional – knowledge, personality, enthusiasm, and driving ability on very narrow roads!! We had Arno for our Omaha/Utah tour, and he was very engaging with our group – not only sharing his wealth of knowledge but also answering specific questions all along the way. We had a specific interest in the Bedford Boys’ history which Arno addressed in much appreciated detail. Chris was our guide for the Battle of the Hedgerows sectors, and he also was amazing. Our group was not as familiar with this aspect of the war, and through Chris and his military experience, this history unfolded through his knowledgeable stories, visual photos and maps, and the physical stops along the way. We highly recommend Overlord Tours for an educational and inspirational experience.
