Hello everyone. Booked a two day Normandy tour with the above company and curious if anyone has used them and what did you tip your guide? Of course the company does mention tipping but really doesn’t offer any guidance. I know tipping is not customary in most of Europe, however many companies seem to embrace American generosity.
We used them. Nice tour. We always tip tour guides that we've booked ourselves. The "no tipping" is more in restaurants/cafes.
Put Overlord Tours in the search bar above. Filter for travel forum. They have been recommended by dozens and dozens of forum contributors. We always do our own driving, but on the forum there are many comments on their tours, all good.
Same here. Our guide was excellent and merited a gratuity. As I recall I tipped with whatever I happened to have in my wallet, which in our case amounted to about 10% of the cost of the tour.
Thanks for all of the quick replies. I was looking for technique’s on how much / percentage. Oh and thanks for the tip on searching.
My husband and I took a 2 day tour and tipped 20 euros (both of us together) each day. They do appreciate tips and it does say that on their site. I was just talking with my husband about how good their tours were last evening.
Edit to add: Antoine, one of their year round guides (they have extra in the summer) went way above and beyond and took us to Omaha beach because one of the men on our tour said he was disappointed he didn't get to see the beach itself because of how high the tide was when he went the day before so at the end he confirmed with the 5 of us that we were fine with going again/didn't have a tight evening scheduled and he took us there. It was so nice. And he took us to a couple of other places not listed in the itinerary and told great stories. Both of our guides were great. Thierry was the other guide we just had a bigger group for his group. I took the Bradley's Tour.
Thanks again for the responses. Wife and I are on a two day tour with Overlord and this helps. Not sure if we will have the same guide or they alternate. Staying at the Churchill Hotel in Bayeaux if anyone has inputs on that.
You will be so close to the pick up place! It looks nice. I stepped into it because we took their shuttle to Mont St Michel (after 2 days of d day tours with Overlord)
Lots of good comments on the Churchill Hotel here also.
I did the 2 day tour with Overlord Tours and it was fantastic. I can't remember if I tipped or not. If I did, it was likely only 10 Euro.
The Churchill Hotel was beautiful and so convenient. The Overlord Tour van left each morning from just behind the hotel. The buffet breakfast was one of the best buffets I had during several trips to France. It had a wide selection of hot and cold choices and high quality ingredients. The hotel has a central location in Bayeux so you can pretty much walk out of the hotel and find multiple restaurants within a few minutes' walk. If you go shopping and want to take your purchases back to your room, you can do that easily. The hotel held my luggage on the morning of my checkout so I could walk around a little and get lunch before my train back to Paris.
