A year ago May we traveled from Beaune to Amboise by car on backroads through the countryside. I came across the receipt from the hotel on the Loire where we stayed, and I felt bad that I had not posted a review. In the tiny town of St. Satur, right on the Loire, is the small Hotel de la Loire. It was a charming hotel much geared to French travelers, with themed rooms in the two story building. We had the "Safari" room, which was quite whimsically decorated with the expected motifs. The room was clean, quiet and comfortable, had AC, looked out at the Loire across the street. The staff - not much English but very charming and helpful. The twelve euro breakfast was probably the best buffet we had during our entire trip, serve on white tablecloths in a beautiful room with amazing choices. Not much of a "town" around, but a beach park on the river, and right across the street a very good restaurant with tables looking out on the river. Drive up to Sancerre for an incredible view and a tour of a very non-touristy hilltop town.
