Other France base for Nice/Paris Trip

My husband and I will be attending a wedding near Nice in June, and will be in France for about 12 days in total. We want to spend a few days in Paris ( which we have been to several times before) , a few days in Nice ( for the wedding) , and a few days somewhere else. We were thinking of Avignon as our other location. Any other suggestions? We love to walk, see charming towns, art museums,
We will most likely not be driving , but will take the TGV to Nice and the other location. And, we have been to Dijon before.

Avignon is the logical choice, especially if you're not driving. We were there in 2014 and I thought it was a great place just "to be". I highly recommend Cave des Pas Sages (I think) for a wonderful idyllic lunch - it's in the RS guide book. My brother and his wife give me credit for recommending Chez Lulu, but it really wasn't me. To me, Provence in general is like living in a Williams-Sonoma catalog. We used Provence Panorama for a couple of small-group tours and were extremely pleased with them.

I see that you have previously asked about Lyon on this Forum. We have only changed trains there, but based on what I have read online that could also be a good choice.
