Orsay Impressionist galleries

When I go to book tickets to Musee d'Orsay, it says that the Impressionist galleries are closed for renovation. Does anyone know when they will re-open?

Check the Musee d'Orsay web site. And see what they have posted.

That's where I got the information that they were closed. I don't see anything there that indicates when they will re-open.
I've sent them an inquiry but thought someone might already know the answer

Where did you see that on the website? From what I can tell looking at the online map, the terrace outside of the impressionist galleries is closed for renovation. It does seem like on their online collections that many of the Monet paintings are not currently on view, I was wondering if they were loaned out for some exhibit elsewhere (or the data is old and hasn't been updated). I have no confirmation of that or special info. But plenty of other notable impressionist paintings are noted in their collections webpage as being on view in the impressionist galleries.

The red and white lines mean they are renovating the outside of the building, probably sandblasting or treating the stone. The galleries are open.

Thanks for the assistance. I was mis-reading the graphic.
The museum confirms what you said:
"Most of the fifth floor and the impressionist collection are fully accessible, with the exception of the outdoor terrace overlooking the Seine"

there's no way they could or would close those galleries, it's their greatest hits collection.

If that's your main interest, read Rick's chapter on the best way to attack the museum. I would suggest you head up there FIRST since they're on the top floor(s) and work your way down. There's also a very pleasant sitdown restaurant just outside those galleries (not the fancier one a few floors down) that has iced tea!

We were there on 06/14 and the fifth floor seemed all open. 3rd and 4th were closed. Lowest floor was open and sculpture level.

It was a Wednesday and it was packed. Not sure if it's always like that. Buying tickets with a time slot will get you in fast though. Make sure you pay close attention to the date and time slot bc its nonrefundable.

Not recommending this, but we messed up and got tickets for the wrong day. We begged our way in telling them (in French) it was our last day. Had to convince about 6 different people by saying that the others said it was ok. They were really nice to let us in.

Thanks phred. We've been to Orsay several times. It's our favorite museum in Paris. The iced tea will be welcome.
