The Orangerie Museum has a guided tour titled “Masterpieces: from Monet to Picasso.” I am trying to decide whether or not to book this tour, or just use their audio self-guided tour. Any thoughts? A second question is if I opt for the self-guided tour, should I get the one at the museum or use the tour on the RS app? Thanks for any suggestions!
The Orangerie is small. We toured it on our own using the RS guide and other resources. Whether or not to book a special tour, is up to you. I would consider cost, and whether the tour time is convenient for you.
I'm partial to guided tours and then spend extra time viewing everything again.
If you want an audio tour, the Orangerie has reorganized the paintings on display several times, so the Rick Steves' recordings could be outdated, out-of-order or the paintings could be on loan or in storage when you are visiting. For these reasons, the museum's audio tour would be better. The Orangerie has excellent, detailed labels for each work on display in both English and French. These labels are among the best I've ever seen in a museum.
