Options from Cahors to Nice?

Perhaps I'm not searching the train information correctly, but can't seem to get info on how to get from Cahors to Nice. Should we just drive to Bordeaux and take a flight? Opinions?

You're in a pickle.

The fastest is going to be driving, believe it or not. But I can't picture a major car place in Cahors.

The train is going to be one of those monster ten hour / seventeen change deals.

Bordeaux is going the wrong way. Everything is going to have to start in Toulouse, I'd bet. There's frequent trains between the two.

Try rome2rio.com and see if anything great shows up.

You'll see some nice scenery along the way, but it would be a long trip. The British SNCF site suggests over ten hours, although that's with a two-hour connection wait in Toulouse! Easyjet and the new Air France budget subsidiary HOP apparently fly from Toulouse to Nice, so it may be worth looking into that.

Cahors to Nice by train takes 9 hours and 1 - 2 connections. That's not bad if you're looking for a day to rest on a train and read a book. I see the same options when researching through either DB or SNCF.

  • How to Look Up Train Schedules Online gives you the DB train schedule link and tips for using it. Easy to print schedules but does not sell these French tickets.

  • Rick’s France rail travel page has the link and tips for buying “Prems” rate TGV tickets through SNCF (cheap, reserved, nonrefundable, available three or four months ahead of your travel date) to print at home and pay with PayPal. It does not tend to work with US credit cards, unless you have an extra level of security set up.
