We would like to see Chartres en lumières, but return to Paris afterwards. It looks like the train will not be running that late from Chartres. Besides renting a car, anyone know of a transportation service or a touring company that would help us get back to Paris (or to a train station that still run to Paris)?
Mydaytrip.com might be an option. Someone mentioned it in a thread about getting from Le Havre to Orly. I have not used the company but a friend who was in France last week used them to go from Cannes to Aix-en-Provence for €287.
Just stay the night in Chartres at Le Grand Monarque, Le Bœuf Couronné, or Hôtel Jehan de Beauce. Chartres is a magical city.
As a bonus, Chartres has some very good restaurants for a town of its size, so staying there is a treat!
Otherwise, cheaper to be driven to Rambouillet (last train 23:22 on a random weekday) than all the way to Paris.
Hello from Wisconsin,
Oh gosh, spend the night. Get there early enough to see the magic of the Cathedral windows. See the old town, Visit a restaurant or two. It is a wonderful place. Go into the cathedral more than once, the light changes what you experience.
Sylvie Menard has a really nice B&B, Les ConvivHôtes. From the train station you go up to the cathedral pass it on your left and head down toward the stream. Her breakfast...lovely. Her English, better than mine. Rooms are upstairs.

Well, I don't mean to provide the obvious response but it seems that it has not been considered so google "taxi chartres" and contact one of the taxi companies in Chartres and arrange taxi service back to Paris.
I spent 2 terrific days in Chartres before a RS Best of Paris last month. I went there for the Cathedral and more than enjoyed my visit.
Train to Gare Montparnasse was 18 Euros. Chartres en Lumieres--check the schedule. I see a 12 April--12 Oct time. ab
