In late May 2018 we will be looking for an overnight stop after spending 4 nights in Sarlat and headed to St Remy for 4 nights. We are new to France, and would love some tips and opinions. We have considered spending the night in Toulouse and then seeing Carcassonne in the morning. I am also wondering if instead we should head out in the direction of Figeac and stay in a small town somewhere on that route. I look forward to hearing your thoughts and recommendations.
I did the drive from Sarlat to St Remy last year. It's 5 hours by freeway and easy. I considered a number of places for 1 night stops: Carcassone, Albi, and a few others.
Thanks FastEddie for the reply. I realize we can drive it in a day, just hoping instead to add another interesting stop to our exploration of the area.
If you can go slow, slow is better.
If Carcassonne beckons, I would spend the night there, then leave mid morning. If you arrive around 3 or 4 you will see the best of it that way, and you'd have plenty of time to drive to St. Remy the next day.
