Starting a one week trip to France in Annecy. Was planning on heading to Lyon then south to Avignon and Nice/Cannes. However, a friend said Cannes/Nice was fine and nice but was not as nice as expected. Any suggestions for a different itinerary that may be a favorite of those of you familiar with France?

I think there is plenty to see and do for a week between Lyon and the Rhone Valley area around Avignon. No need to add anything else to your week.
