One week in Provence.. staying in Avignon

My wife and I are looking into staying a week in Le Thor near Avignon during the later part of September. We are considering staying in a home through Untours.
Any opinions as to staying in Le Thor (or Avignon) as a base will be appreciated. Also, has anyone had experience with Untours?

Many Thanks.

I often recommend this official tourism office, both on-line and in their central office. Very helpful, not just in the city but for the surrounding area. As to your specific questions, I will have to leave the research to you.

I guess the question is what info are you looking for? I spent three days in Avignon last year (late September) using it as a base camp. Lots to do in the area. In Avignon the Popes Palace was amazing . In the surrounding area you have a lot of well known places such as the famous Pont du Gard.

The weather in Sept when we were there was just about perfect for site seeing. Warm enough to be comfortable cool enough to walk around,

Biggest problem we had (and it was not much of an issue) is the absolutely STUPID way that the rental car locations are located at the TGV station. With basically a moat between some of the locations and the car park. Requireing a stupid walk back to the point you can cross the water... Looks great but is a complete pita. Especially with an elderly relative.

So not sure what to tell you.
Note we rented a baby BMW and drove all over the place, we rented it in Avignon and the drive to Nice, spent time around there And Monaco and into Italy. Then drove along the cost through Cannes to Saint Tropez. Then from there back to Avignon
The Drives along the cost were amazing and the drive over the “mountains “ back to Avignon was a blast in that little BMW.

We then spent a few days in Avignon driving around. All total we spent about a week in the South of France.
Personally I think it depend on how much tourist stuff you want to do but personally as much as I loved Avignon (a picturesque city if ever there was one) I am not sure that a Full week in the same spot is the best use of your time.
As Rick tends to say day 5 in City A may be nice but it is seldom as nice as Day 1 in City B. But that being said it may be possible to find a locate within driving distance of several locations of things you want to do.
Personally I would spend three days or so each in two locations. But that is my personal style of travel. I would rather leave an area and think “man I wish I had seen....” then to get home and think “why did I blow 6 days there the last three were dull and not worth the time and money” But it is all a personal preference kind of thing,
So the weather and location are good and there is some very nice things to see in the area.

Last month we stayed at lescarmes.com in Le Thor and found a gem of a B&B ! Paschal and his 300 year old villa were outstanding.

We used this as a base for exploring the hill towns like Rousillon, Menerbes, and Bonnieux and driving the Cotes du Rhone up to Vaison.

We felt it was a perfect location for the region and there was a grocery store and gas station a mile away in Isle sur la Sorgue.
