I've been researching programs - my reading in French is close to excellent, but my conversation is at the other end of the scale. I have heard mention of programs where the student is able to choose a host with whom to reside, and to receive guidance in speaking, if not lessons per se. Does this ring a bell with anyone? Can anyone recommend or comment? I'm 70 yo with a few years of French language study behind me, and would be interested in staying elsewhere than Paris (though Paris is always on the itinerary!)
My brother has had this experience a couple of times. I can ask him. We're spending about 3 months in France beginning february and immersion I've been told is the best experience. Like you I can read mostly without difficulty (the tense sometimes trip me up but...). I have a french tutor and see her twice a month, and I'm seeing her once a week (I know her from in person lecons, but since covid she's discovered doing some lecons via skype. It's great! I appreciate her patience, and she likes that I just will throw words out there hoping they're the french version of english. Sometimes I'm right, sometimes not. Babbel, Mondly, and others also will connect you with native speakers for conversations.
