One of a kind excursion?

My amazing husband gifted me a trip to France for my 50th birthday this year and I want to do something special for him there as a thank you.

We will be in Paris for 3 nights, Provence for 5 nights and the Riviera for 6 nights.

So far all I can think of is a hot air balloon ride near Avignon (I am terrified of heights, but seems so romantic) or a tour of the Grand Prix route and grand corniche in a Lamborghini in Monaco.

Was hoping to book a bullgame in Provence, or a soccer game in Marseilles but doesn’t seem to be happening while we’re there (May 21-June 4).

Grateful for other suggestions for a 53 year old man that doesn’t care at all about food or wine.

Thanks!

If you are terrified of heights, I strongly suggest you disabuse yourself of the notion that taking a balloon ride with a tense, nervous, stressed out wife will be any sort of romantic experience for your spouse. Move on to other ideas..........

One idea is simply to google "Day Tours or Experiences in ____________" and see what ideas come up. That might be a starting point.

I've never used Airbnb at all, but folks have mentioned booking Airbnb experiences. I'm nearly certain you can do that even if you are not staying in an Airbnb property. The website Toursbylocals also might give you some ideas.

Lamborghini on the race route and haute Corniche, absolutely. I got to the Riviera this afternoon. I’m here often for family and never tire of it. It is so, so beautiful. The haute corniche is my favorite.

The non-lethal local Bull games, Course Camarguaise, have begun on Sunday afternoons in Languedoc for young competitors. Probably Provence, too. Check listings in local papers or the tourist office for info.

Private behind the scenes or early entry to a museum or the Eiffel Tower?

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

Jean: Fabulous idea that I wouldn’t have thought of. Thank you! He’d love a boat cruise. I was hoping to go from Nice to le Cornich D’or by boat, but only see tours that leave form Cannes, which we don’t want to visit. When you suggest contacting the actual person that does it, how do you get that info?

Suki: We are basing ourselves in St Remy in Provence and Nice in the Cote D’Azur.

Acraven: thanks for the link. Love the idea of a local guide.

Bets: Thanks for the reassurance. I think he would love that option. Looks like it would have to be just him and the tour guide, but that’s not a problem for me. Just have to stop thinking about Grace Kelly……

I love the idea. You already have 2 of my ideas, going to a local soccer game or renting a Lamborghini. Is he a golfer? Looks like there are a few nice courses in the area. Is he into live music? KISS and The Rolling Stones are both touring Europe this Summer (I know because we are going to see them both (KISS in Nimes and Stones in Brussels)). But there are other music festivals and tours that might be of interest.

Another thought, do you have a prestige credit card like Amex Platinum? They have a concierge service for this sort of thing. Also, Conde Nast Traveler and Travel & Leisure have lists of fancy travel agents all over the world that claim to offer "once in a lifetime" type experiences and they probably do deliver (as long as you have the dinero).
