One night in Paris - cozy/romantic with a rooftop bar? (and early check in)

My wife and I will have one night in Paris in August 2024 before moving on to another area for our trip. I plan to work with a local guide from toursbylocals to see as much as we have energy for, and then perhaps an evening 2CV tour!

I would like to find a city center hotel that has a rooftop bar, any budget. I see Hotel Dame des Arts and Terrass'' Hotel as two popular ones, but would love the Rick Steves hivemind opinion. We are laid back people and enjoy the cozier side of things versus the clinical feeling of very fancy venues. That said, we'll work with whatever we can find.

Ideally I would like to find a place that will work with me for early check in, even if there is a fee, as we're coming off a flight at 0600 and will arrive in the city around 0900. It would be great to freshen up before we hit the city.

Here’s how hotels work with you for an early check in. Book the room for the night prior, and let them know when you will be actually arriving, so they don’t think you are a no show. Otherwise you are unlikely to get into a room early. We always book our room for the night before, if our flights arrive early in the morning. Of course you have the added expense of an extra night but that’s how you get into your room early morning.

Thanks KD. I have had success in the past with getting in early without a 2nd night - but happy to do so if that secures it.

What’s your date in August ? Please keep in mind that lots of roads and bridges will be closed for the Olympics and Paralympics from July through early September. A 2 CV tour may be not that fun (as it would have to avoid the heart of Paris).

And yes early check-in in Paris usually means paying for the night before.

Had entirely forgotten about the Olympics! Coming in 15 August, leaving by train 16 August.

Well luckily you fall into the window after the Olympics closing ceremony and before the Paralympics start. Some metro stations will be closed (because they will be closed as of mid-June through late September), and some normally heavily trafficked (i.e. central spaces) will be closed to traffic because they are building stadiums in them (Place de la Concorde, down below Trocadero, etc. etc.). you should miss the worst of it, but it won’t at all be business as usual, so just keep that in mind.

P.S. of course a classic with a rooftop terrace is the Hotel Raphael, on avenue Kleber in the 16th. You feel like the Arc de Triomphe is sitting right there with you. But it definitely fits onto the “fancy” side of things.

15 August is one of the few public holidays french people take seriously. That may play in your favour. Then again it might not.

Thanks for all the thoughts so far everyone. Looks like Hotel Raphael's terrace is closed until 15 August.

Hmmm. I wonder if they have rented it out to some tv crew from somewhere for their live shots. I bet that's it !! Makes sense.

Hotel Dame des Arts is the one I see as regularly recommended.
