One more city after Nice to visit to fly back to US?

Nice is last planned town in our 5 week trip. From here we are wondering where to go, easily and cheaper, to be able to fly back to US?l end of May 2024???? Any recommendations???

So no one waste time recommending some place you are already going list what you already planned. But Nice and Marseille both in the same area both have airports.

Yes, where will you already have been? If not Marseille, then that would be a good choice, with flights to various European hubs that serve US airports. Nice also works that way.

We will have traveled Paris, Reims, Strausburg, Lyon and finally Nice. Was thinking of another(close and easy to get to)country that we could see some sights and also has a larger airport where fares maybe more economical to USA.

First time posting on this site so apologies for omission previously!!!

lianeharrington,
If you choose Marseille, there are some interesting things to see there, plus the benefit of getting a good bouillabasse..... Greek/Roman ruins (e.g. the Garden of Ruins), Notre Dame de la Garde, the nearby calanques, the Vieux Port, Chateau d'If, the Cathedral of Ste. Marie Majeure, plus the ambience of the old Port and the Vallon des-Auffes, the Corniche and le Prado, Parc Borelys....it is a great city to visit. And easy to get a connecting flight home.

Oops, you said another country. Well, Italy or Switzerland, of course, but places with a good connecting international airport are not close to Nice, in my opinion. I would still opt for Marseille for a fascinating visit to the oldest city in France. It is also a day trip from there to Les Beaux, Ste. Baume, Aix-en-Provence.
Bonne chance et bon voyage!

Milan Malpensa would be your best possibility for an airport with (possibly) fewer connections to the US, though it always "depends." If you really want us to help you, tell us your U.S. destination.

Do you have flights booked to Paris? Also how do you intend to travel between cities/towns?

The Strasbourg to Lyon leg seems kind of random. If you are driving, maybe you can add an area to stay between those two cities and fly out of Paris. Another option is to end in Strasbourg and fly out of Frankfurt. We found great multi-city fares on Lurhsansa. The issue here would be returning a car in a different country I’m not sure the penalty would be worth the savings.

We found Nice and Marseilles fares to be comparable. However if Provence interests you, maybe you can travel from Lyon to Avignon and explore Provence instead of Nice. Then fly out of Paris if roundtrip flights are cheaper.

It is a little round about, but you could go to Switzerland. Flights back from Geneva and Zurich are usually pretty well priced, depending on where you are coming from. Nice is better connected for the US than Marseille, with seasonal flights now directly to four airports, plus the other connections. Milan, Florence and Barcelona are three other choices. (Unfortunately Milan isn't as quick to get to as you might expect due to cutbacks in the Italian railway system).

However, don't get stuck in the paradigm of a nearby city. You can directly go to any of the major European hubs like London, Frankfurt, Munich, Madrid, Amsterdam and spend a few days and often save a ton of money in airfare. I do this all the time. You can get inexpensive one-way tickets from Nice to all of Europe, with many choices within a two hour distance. Just be wary of baggage allowances.

From experience and what I've seen, NCE and CDG are the only french airports serving the US without stops.
