Notre Dame: Tower visits to resume Sept 20

The Centres Des Monuments Nationaux announced today that they are targeting Sept 20 for resuming visits to the towers of Notre Dame.

Tickets will cost 16€.

I made a topic about this about ~20/25 minutes ago with all of the information, but for whatever reason, it's not showing up (it shows in my post history, but I get a 404 when I click the link) :\

Tickets will go on sale early September (Date, TBC).

Since the bell towers are managed by the Centre des monuments nationaux (Centre of National Monuments), or CMN for short, the reservation system won't be on the same website as the time slots to visit the main floor of the cathedral. Before the fire, reservations were facilitated through a mobile app called "DuckTheLine", but that will likely change. The reservation system for the bell towers hasn't been announced yet. No other specific ticketing information has been confirmed/released yet, but advanced reservations will be required.

Since the bell towers are considered a tourist site, there will be an entrance fee of €16 per person. It's still TBC if the bell towers will remain included in the Paris Museum Pass.

As of now, guided tours/tour groups will not be allowed in the bell towers, due to the limited amount of capacity/space and to keep the flow of visitors moving smoothly. A maximum of 100 visitors will be allowed to visit the bell towers at a time.

The direction of the visitor route through the bell towers will be reversed from what it was before the fire. As of now, the plan for the new visitor route is:

  • Enter through the south tower (the right side of the cathedral).
  • Visit a room that's newly open to the public on the "first level" within the south tower that will have exhibitions showcasing the cathedral’s history, key dates of its construction, major historical events, and replica molds of 3 of the chimera (The Stryge, The Pelican and The Dog-headed Woman).
  • A new wooden staircase is being built. This staircase will be one of the most impressive elements of the restoration in the bell towers and it's a completely new addition to Notre Dame! It’s a “double-helix staircase”, which has two separate spirals that intertwine, allowing one side for walking up and the other side for walking down. People going opposite directions won’t run into each other, but can see each other through the middle!
  • (TBC) Visit the Gallery of Chimeras, but only partially/on the south side (the north side will be now be closed to the public).
  • Climb inside the south belfry and see the two bells, Emmanuel and Marie.
  • Climb the stairs to the terrace at the very top of the south tower.
  • Climb down to the terrace between the south and north tower. This is a new area that wasn't not open to the public before the fire. There will be a viewing area to see inside the newly rebuilt "Forest", the wooden framework of the roof!
  • Pass by the north belfry (since the north tower/the bells in the north tower will be functioning, his area won't be as open/accessible as the south bell tower.
  • On the descent, there will be a gift shop. It’s still TBC if the gift shop will remain in the same room it was before the fire, or if it will be moved to a new location.
  • Exit out of the north tower (the left side of the cathedral).

This is exciting news for us as we will be in Paris in October!! We went up in 2015 and I’d like to do this again on our return trip. Thanks for sharing, Kim, and thanks Emily for the additional info.

thanks -- this is great news. I last did the Towers about 30 years ago with my then 14 year old daughter -- it is a thrilling experience -- maybe I'll get to take my grandson.

Thanks for the helpful information.

You're welcome Juile, Andrea, Kay and janettravels44!

Thanks, Nigel! Hmm, that's odd it's not working for me. Oh well, I'll check back later.

Regardless, just like all of my other Notre Dame "resources", all of the details can be found in my Reddit post(s), which is where I'll post updates first. I'll try to post them here on this forum too, but it's easier to forget when I'm less active here. Plus the word limit on Reddit much higher, and well, I talk a lot! Haha. I created a new one for the reopening of the bell towers, specifically, and just added new updates: https://www.reddit.com/r/ParisTravelGuide/comments/1lojm4u/the_reopening_of_the_notre_dame_bell_towers/

And, thanks to you, Kim, for finding Emily in the first place. A few months ago you posted that there was this person named Emily who posted on Reddit about Notre Dame Cathedral. You and Emily make a good team.

I just wanted to bump this up in case there was any updated information about when tickets might go on sale. I was able to reserve a ticket for early October for Saint Chapelle and would love to see the towers afterwards. Thank you!

I last did the Tower over 30 years ago with my then 14 year old daughter -- was not able to do it last year with my 14 year old grandchild. Am really hoping to get to do it this September so am also looking for ticket advice. Apparently tickets become available in September but the site doesn't say when and how. just that they are 14 Euro.

I, too, am eagerly awaiting information for my September visit in just 3 weeks. This is the link that I'm using for updates: https://www.tours-notre-dame-de-paris.fr/en/actualites/reopening-of-the-tours-de-notre-dame-circuit.
It appears that the link for ND Tower tickets is unknown, but if logic prevails, maybe it will be that one. September 20th the ND Towers open for Heritage Days, but the next date that is mentioned is September 24 with the opening times. There's been no mention of how many days ahead one can book, how many bookings a day there will be, etc. I am in suspense!

The Towers of Notre Dame will be included with the Passion Monuments Subscription.

In Paris alone the pass also includes Sainte-Chapelle, the Conciergerie, the Arc de Triomphe, the Pantheon and Panorama and Hotel de la Marine as well as many other sites throughout France.

Don't overlook this pass. It also provides a substantial savings on concert tickets at Sainte-Chapelle and discounts in the shops and cafes of many of its monuments. Valid for 1 year, you can purchase single or duo membership.

Another plus is priority security lines at most sights. In April I showed the security monitor my pass at Sainte-Chapelle and he put me at the front of the line. No waiting!

Jeanm, I got the pass since it will more than pay for itself during our upcoming one month in Paris.

I wonder if pass holders will need a reservation or if you can just show up?

Andrea I sent an email this morning asking about that. I'll let you know what I learn.

"If you have a card (Paris Museum pass, carte culture, carte ICOM) and are entitled to free admission (under 18s, 18-25s, jobseekers, etc.), you must book a time slot and present yourself with an e-ticket (you will be asked for proof)." I'm not sure if this is the same as the Passion Monuments Subscription.

It does appear as though https://www.tours-notre-dame-de-paris.fr/en/actualites/reopening-of-the-tours-de-notre-dame-circuit is the correct website for the tower tickets: "While we await the launch of our e-ticketing service at the beginning of September, we'd like to give you some useful and essential information to ensure that your visit goes off without a hitch."

@jeanm - you might have persuaded me to get the Passion Monuments pass too, lol!!

@Pam, my incessant shilling of the Passion Monuments Subscription is working, lol.

Under the right circumstances, it can be a great pass. And unlike the Paris Museum Pass, you get unlimited admission.

Your 1 year subscription begins on day of purchase, so don't buy it too far in advance.

In order to see if the subscription worked for me, i checked out the admission prices for the Paris sights. It does pencil out, but I am surprised by the fees for the Paris sights. 22 E for the Arc de Triomphe, 30 E for St. Chappelle, 30 E for the Pantheon...... It's been a few years since I have been to Paris, but what the heck? Once there, I bet there will be more price surprises.

@lakertone40, are you looking at the official websites?

Sainte-Chapelle, for example, is €19 regular admission in September, €13 on Wednesdays.

I believe they were the official websites, not a re-seller or tour. Wednesday discounts were also shown there.

“ 22 E for the Arc de Triomphe, 30 E for St. Chappelle, 30 E for the Pantheon”

I believe you’re looking at 3rd party resellers as these prices are not correct. Entry into Ste. Chappelle should only be €19 not €30. A ticket for the Pantheon is €16, not €30.

"@Pam, my incessant shilling of the Passion Monuments Subscription is working, lol."

Where is that laughing emoji when you need it, lol!! And yes, I did run a check on the prices at the official websites and would probably save some money. I'm going to Carcassonne and the admission to the walls around the Cite are covered as well. It might also encourage me to go to some locations I might not normally go to...just like it USED to be with the Paris Museum Pass.
