For those of us who respect and/or love Notre-Dame in Paris, here is a view of the restoration work, from last summer. Great for gearheads, cliff-climbers and mountaineers too. The source is a government news channel.
Looks to me that the spin-offs from the mighty cost will be lots of scientific and technological knowledge.
Thanks for the post - interesting how the process is going.
Thanks so much for sharing. I have visited Paris many times in the last 40 years and it has been my tradition, from the beginning, to visit Notre Dame as soon as I arrive to offer a prayer of thanks for my good fortune in being able to experience the wonders of such a beautiful city. I hope to be able to carry on the tradition when the restoration is complete.
Building back Notre Dame is so important. It appears they are doing it properly.
Westminister Abbey was damaged during the blitz in WWII, but rebuilt as it was. The Frauenkirche was rebuilt in Munich after WWII.
a few months back ABC ran a 2 hour special about the fire and the rebuilding. There is also a special on Nat Geo. These are probably floating around the internet somewhere.
Some interesting ideas are put forth in the Vid's comment section. One in particular is that bits and pieces that will not be reused, once decontaminated of lead, could be sold to fund the restoration. I like this idea. It would be fun to own a bit of ND! I would seriously consider buying a little block of stone for our garden.
Francis, me too!! Thanks for mentioning this. Starting when i was 4 yrs old we went to Notre Dame often, it is very near and dear to my heart.
