Notre Dame Partial Tower Climb

Is it possible to do a partial climb of Notre Dame south tower? I read on one site it was possible to go approx 1/2 way up and then cross over to desend. Can anyone verify?

My friend and I have done the tower climb prior to the fire; we would like to experience the new wood staircase and the mid climb views.

Thank you.

Hi! There's 7 different areas along the visitor route:

  1. The lower level room
  2. The quatrefoil room
  3. The south belfry (landing) and a very small section of the Gallery of Chimera
  4. The summit of the south bell tower
  5. The south belfry (inside) and the bells of the south tower
  6. The terrace between the north tower and south tower
  7. The north belfry

The visitor route is designed that each of these 7 areas have to be visited in this sequential order, and you can't go backwards.

However, if you don't want to climb to the top/the summit of the south bell tower, you can skip this area. Once you reach the south belfry (landing), you can tell the staff member who's there that you don't want to visit the summit and they will direct you inside the south belfry to continue the visitor route.
