The French senate has voted to restore Notre Dame to "its last known visual state".
Here's the article from AD.
It seems from the article that this isn't yet final, since it has to go back to the National Assembly to ratify the changes made by the Senate. But I for one am happy that they are going with the traditionalist approach. Some of the ideas I've seen were so far out of the box it verged on the ridiculous.
Agree with CJean, many ideas were ridiculous. I’m very happy it will be restored to “it’s last known visual state”. That’s the right decision imo. I just hope it’s completed and re-opened within 10 yrs. It’s a very special place for me.
I prefer the traditional approach too, but I can live with a subtle archtitectural element symbolizing the fire as it will be part of the building’s history in the future.
I'm disappointed; some of the suggestions for lightening up the interior with more use of glass were lovely and there is something to be said for moving forward rather than always looking back -- but I will love it either way.
