Looking for suggestions on lodging in the Northern Rhone area, perhaps in Vienne. Also for any wine tours, wineries to visit, restaurants. We will have a rental car.

If your budget allows, I would consider La Pyramide in Vienne: a historic fine-dining restaurant with high-quality rooms attached. Otherwise, since Vienne is short on good accommodation (too close to Lyon I guess), I'd aim to stay a bit further west, like in Condrieu (hotels Beaurivage or Bellevue), or at the Domaine de Clairefontaine.

Agree with Balso that La Pyramide is worth a stop. There are two dining rooms: one is expensive and the other is ultra-expensive. It's a hotel also but not in everyone's price point.
