This is a complex decision that interacts with your housing and transport plans. I respectfully suggest that you go to your public library and review Rick's book about France. It's a comprehensive review of the area, and the broad strokes do not go out of date.

Thank you for your reply. We are in France at bayeaux with a car. We have been to the airborne museum and have had a full day tour. Looking for one more museum to visit.

The invasion museum in Bayeux is quite good. It's modern and not as overwhelmingly large as the museum in Caen. I liked the Caen Museum, but it seems to bug a lot of people that it covers a time span broader than the war itself and takes all day to see. The Caen Museum can also get crowded, and it is expensive.

There's also an interesting, newish museum in Falaise that focuses on the civilian experience during the war. It covers Resistance activities as well. https://www.memorial-falaise.com/. Although Falaise is accessible by bus, your car would be a convenience for this one.
