Normandy Area Visit

Sometime within the last several months I heard you on NPR (I believe) detailing a visit to a very old church setting near Normandy where if a tourist was to be at the church about 6:30AM when the nuns open the church the visitor could go into the church and observe the nuns morning rituals but avoid the typical later day tourist crowds. Your advice was to arrive at the village the previous day6, possibly catch a delightful sunset then maybe even witness the sunrise next day while awaiting the nuns unlocking of the church. I cannot recall the name of the village or the church but would like to know that as we are planning to visit France and the Normandy area in early July 2018.

Thank you for any help.

Without looking, that sounds like the advice for visiting the abbey at Mont St Michel. Except there are monks and nuns chanting the morning prayers (matins). It is pretty cool, and not a lot of people up that early, but there is a lot to know about visiting there. Its a major pilgrimage site (for centuries) and therefore heavily touristed.
