No bedbugs in Paris

I know there was news about this subject shortly before we arrived by Eurostar. In fact, we met passengers in St Pancras Station who changed their itinerary from Paris to Brussels because of this news.

We soldiered on….spent five nights and four days at Rick Steves’ recommended Hotel Jeanne d’Arc in the Marais and we can report No Bedbugs.

Thanks for this information. Obviously, good to know.

Staying in Paris this summer for just under a month, I did not ( luckily ) run into this unpleasant experience in any of the 3 two star hotels at Gard du Nord.

So those tourist really didn’t think they were bedbugs any place, but Paris 😂😂😂😂😘

I swear people are crazy. There are bedbugs in every city or town in the world. (OK I’ll take that back maybe not in desert locations I don’t think they really like that much heat) but every European city or town is going to have someplace with bedbugs. as is every American city or town.

If you’re changing your travel, because of this, you probably should not be traveling farther than your guest bedroom

In defense of those who are worried about bed bugs. My oldest son had an infestation in his apartment that migrated in from the next door unit. It is very, very hard to get rid of bed bugs. A mother's love was tested when I stood in the middle of that apartment and helped him deal with an infestation that was so bad you could see them crawling around. Only for my son would I do that! I have increased my efforts to avoid them ever since.

The wise traveler checks every hotel room on entering for signs of bed bugs. They often like to hide in the crevices between the walls and the ceilings and in the corners.

Yes, the wise traveler checks every hotel. But what we have right now is people only checking in Paris because they’re only bedbugs in Paris. Your son was not in Paris the few people I know who picked them up were not in Paris.

But we have people avoiding Paris, because of bedbugs, and assuming that every place else in the world is perfectly safe. Fantasyland has left the Magic Kingdom (oh, and by the way, they’re lots of bedbugs in Orlando.)

French authorities have considered the bedbug crisis was created by Russian disinformation. Who knows. But Carol is right, bedbugs are in every city and town.

My question is… if you find bed bugs in your hotel room do you then leave and try to find a room in another hotel?
If they’re in one room, wouldn’t they have spread throughout that hotel?
Finding a room in a different hotel last minute can be difficult and expensive depending on time of year.

Every hotel has to deal with bedbugs and if they are effective at it, it will not have spread to other rooms, but I sure wouldn't want one next door -- and of course finding another room last minute in another hotel is a challenge. Read recent reviews and cope if it happens. The most important thing is to take simple steps on return that if you have one or two hitchhiking they don't get a beachhead in your bedroom.

Don't unload the suitcases on your bed. we unpack in the bathroom, launder all clothes from the trip. and then wipe down suitcases put a little diatomaceous work in each one and store them away from our living space. When we had a house, suitcases were stored in the garage; in the highrise they go in the storage room.

So far so good. Our only encounter didn ot result in us bringing them home.

The number of recent Paris bedbug sightings I've seen from travelers on forums approximates zero. The number of news reports is a bit higher.

I once was bitten alive (though luckily my house wasn't infested, as I figured it out before I got home) in a very swank hotel in Maui. That was 13 years ago. I have never again spent a night in a hotel without checking the bed. I will say that that I have never checked subway seats for bedbugs, but now I guess I'll be doing that too.
