Nimes hotel for 2 nights

Looking around this site, I don't see any recently given advice on where to stay while in Nimes. We will be passing through in late September, planning to stay for a couple of nights, drive up to Pont-du-Gard and spend a day in Nimes itself. Does anyone have a recommendation on a good mid-range hotel in Nimes? We would like to visit Jardins de la Fontaine, Maison Caree, and the amphitheatre, so a hotel near those would be the preferred part of town.

Thanks,
Chuck

Nimes is small. We stayed at the Ibis Budget by the train station. It looked llike there was parking by there.

The Jardins have a pleasant music-and-lights-and-water show and the theatre hosts fun jazz and light opera in the evenings, so time your visits to get to see those. Follow the walking tour in the RS guide, and also grab the tour/map from the TI.

There are new-ish motels for those burdened with cars along Route 7, the road that leads to the triumphal arch. They struck me as eyesores compared to the older central neighborhood on the one hand or the new construction going on just to the west, but I like the old jumble area in most towns best.

The restaurant right under/within the amphitheatre is skippable, imo -- trying to mash modern style into an ancient setting.

Thanks for the hotel suggestions. They are reasonable and close to the sites we want to see. Nimes appears to be a very walkable city. Looking forward to this trip!

Yes, Nimes is a very walkable city. For a city of around 150,000 people, it seems very small, at least the areas worth exploring. We spent a week there w/o a car, and when we started to explore outside the center we quickly hit purely residential streets.

I found the Hotel Kyriad Nîmes Centre to be pleasant and not too expensive. Reception staff were helpful re places to eat. I arrived by train but I think the hotel has its own nearby parking that you can book.
