This doesn't seem to be easy other than train and then long taxi ride.
Does anyone have any recommendations for private drivers maybe or other ideas?
Thank you!

Another option is to take the train from Nice to Saint Raphael. Then walk/taxi over to the Vieux Port (500 meters, about a third of a mile) and take the ferry to St Tropez:

This would be the quickest way, a private driver would have you caught in the continuous traffic jam from Saint Raphael all the way to St Tropez.
Approximately one hour trip, €15 one way. When are you traveling ? Service becomes more frequent as the season advances.
Barbara's suggested option is really the best; traffic on the coast road between Fréjus and Saint-Tropez gets pretty bad between late May and end August (especially in July-August), and public buses are scarce.
St.-Tropez is a lot more annoying to reach than the other coastal towns along the Riviera. Do you have a specific reason for choosing it rather than a more convenient destination?
Thanks so much Barbara ~ appreciate it! It will be July so I am sure traffic will be crazy.
This is for my daughter and son in law ~ she has Saint Tropez on her bucket list.
