Nice to Lyon train question !

I am looking at sncf and trainline and can only find ONE train on Sunday November 26 from Nice to Lyon. Yet there are hourly trains on Monday. I am fine with connections.

Am I missing something or is that just weekend versus weekday offerings ?

Thank you to any one who can shed some light on this !

I see the same thing you do for November 26, but lots of trains on Sunday, November 19. I wonder whether November 26 is part of a holiday weekend in France. Perhaps SNCF doesn't show sold-out trains?

I do see buses on the 26th, but they take 7 to 8 hours.

We need help from the French rail experts, of whom I am not one.

It could be track work that day. You could try using the live chat function at sncf.com/en and ask there.

Go the the SNCF website, and look for "flexible".
There is an 86 EU ticket available, if you are flexible, and if you are going one-way:

Thank you for the quick replies ! I am just used to looking at bahn.de or trenitalia and seeing tons of time choices, so this threw me.

I wondered if I was missing something.

Let me check on live chat. Or we take the train the next day when there appears to be a selection of times.....

Why not fly? I looked at the options and decided the best bet was the 1 hour flight. I chose Air France to Orly but other carriers fly the same route. The cost was right at $50 (so 40 something euro).

It does look like the limited service is due to track work. It's not a normal weekend situation. It's clear that no other direct trains are expected to operate that day, per SNCF, as well as they were serious enough about it to pass the info through to DB. If you need to travel that day, then buy that ticket ASAP. The connecting option shown on DB goes through Italy and takes 10 hours.

FYI, there is a French strike planned for Thursday, November 16: http://www.linternaute.com/sortir/magazine/1400252-greve-sncf-ratp-les-previsions-de-trafic-du-jeudi-16-novembre-2017/

Thank you for that confirmation.

And I will look into flying as an option !

Air France to Orly to go to Lyon from Nice makes no sense, but you could fly non-stop on Hop!. There are usually at least 2 nonstops per day.
