Nice to Paris Airport (CDG)

We are flying out of Paris on August 25th morning. So, I am thinking of flying from Nice to Paris airport on 24th and take the hotel shuttle to hotel by CDG so that we can rest that night and take hotel's shuttle to airport on 25th morning. This also gives us few hours more in Nice. This looks convenient to me but I hear very scenic train journey.

I have ready many long forums on this topic. Please let me know if I should take the train. I just booked my flights and I have one day to cancel. It's $100 more to fly.

Even I take the train, I still need to uber from Paris city center to airport hotel.

Cheers

Nice to Paris is 6 hours by train, 3 along the coast and three from around Marseille to Gare de Lyon, Paris. Add an hour for a taxi to the airport. Along the coast is pretty, but then it speeds up too fast to take in scenery. I’ve had great views from the plane, too. Can’t tell you what to do if this is your first experience, but the train and hustling through Paris does get long, while the airport can be boring, too. Flying in and staying the night at the airport is the most efficient.

BTW, taxi is fixed fare of 55 € from Gare de Lyon to CDG, and taxis have the right to use fast lanes. Just get in the taxi line. Ubers can’t pick up at the train station.

Good flights? I am seeing about 320 EUR on Easyjet with seat selection and 2 50# hold bags. Air France for 300 EUR plus what ever extras they charge. 2 seats on the 9:18 TGV with a change in Avignon to CDG, arriving at 16:02 is 264 EUR total. No Uber needed, and no transport to Nice airport.

I've done both -- train and plane. I'd take the plane in your situation for $100 more if you want an additional 2 to 3 hours hours in Nice. The train trip will take about 7.5 hours including the travel time to the train station. The flight will take about 4 hours all in (travel time to the airport, arriving 2 hours before scheduled departure and the flight).

Your original idea to fly is a good one. Bets describes the train ride accurately. After about 4 hours, there is an on-and-onness, particularly in the long stretches at the highest speeds.

With the flight, you can arrive at your airport hotel (hopefully in the airport itself, so no need for shuttle?), check in, and have the rest of the day for Paris. Return to the airport hotel by RER after a lovely afternoon (and evening dinner), ready for sweet dreams.

To me this would be the most effective and simplest use of time, money, and energy; and a stress-free way to top off your holiday in France.
