Nice to Cassis

My husband and I will be in Provence for 6 nights. We will start in Nice (two nights) and go to Cassis to see the Calanques (Mediterranean fjords). How easily can I get to Cassis from Nice on public transportation or do we need a car?

There is frequent train service all day long. You'll need to make a connection in Toulon. Depending upon your departure time the trip will take 2 1/2 - 3 hours.
