We will be in Europe in the fall, with the last two cities being Nice and Barcelona. I was originally planning on just taking the train from Nice to Barcelona (our last stop). Now, I am wondering if anyone could suggest a place between the two for a night. Our transportation will be by train throughout our trip.

Plenty of time to grab a cheap fare with either Easyjet or Vueling on this route. Add a day to Barcelona.
By train, it's about 3 hours from Nice to Avignon by TGV, and then another 4 hours to Barcelona on direct services.

Probably the halfway point in terms of travel time would be Montpellier or Perpignan. Montpellier would be nice for an evening, I don't know about Perpignan.
