Nice or elsewhere with family

We are a family of 4 with a 15 yo and 12 yo, we will be ending our April Paris and Provence trip in Nice. My original plan was to drive from Provence to Nice and drop off the rental car and then spend 2 nights in Nice . Our flight leaves Nice at 9:30am on Saturday. Now I'm thinking we don't actually have to spend the last 2 nights in Nice - we can stay at another seaside town as long as we make it to the Nice airport by 7am.. Any suggestions? It will be the first week of April and if the weather is nice the girls will want to go to the beach- I know it will still be cold- this doesn't usually stop them - anything is warmer than the Norcal Pacific in summer. My husband and I are looking for good food (seafood) and beautiful views. Also, a hotel recommendation if you suggest somewhere other than Nice.

Thank you for you time!

The weather in April usually is too cold and can be rainy, but then again I've seen northern European people on the beach in February. For smaller towns, you might consider Antibes or Villefranche-sur-mer. The teen/tween might find more to do in inclement weather in Nice, however.

We were on the RS Loire Valley/South of France tour in May 2018. The tour spends two nights in Nice, and we added two additional nights on our own. Nice was very enjoyable, with many good restaurants. It would be much easier to get to the airport if you were staying in Nice. The tram connection to the airport is supposed to be ready by the end of 2018.

Pick either Antibes or Nice. Don't stress about your choice much, because if you stay either place you'll likely take a day trip to the other. Will your girls be cute-villaged out by then, and want to spend some time in a livelier city? With shopping? Or will they want to chill out before going home? Maybe present some choices and let them make the decision.

My favorite in the area is Antibes. It's got a nice marina, the best sand beaches (though probably not beach weather in April), art gallery, old defensive walls, great medieval center with restaurants all in a walkable package. It's probably 15-20 minutes at most by train from Nice (train station is a mile from the airport).

In September 2017, I rented a studio apartment from Airbnb (in next door Juan les Pins) for about 50 euro a night.

Thank you for the responses. I think we'll spend our time in Antibes if the weather is nice enough. We can day trip to Nice if the weather forces us inside. Any hotel recommendations for Antibes?

I loved our stay at Mas Djoliba Hotel. The staff is terrific and it is close enough to walk to the water front or to shops. If you're bringing a car the parking is free but it's very very tight to get into the little lot . You will figure out some tricks to work though. There's a fun hike not too far from the hotel. I need to look it up but I'll get back to you.
