mmpounder,
Can you provide some more information? There are tons of hotels in Nice and nearby areas. How many people, what amenities, price range, parking needed, any physical limitations, preference for what you want nearby (e.g. beach), access needed for public transportation? The more info you give people on the forum, the more they can help you with personal recommendations. Everyone is very helpful but they do need some parameters. Can you give some details?
To me any hotel with reliable AC during the summer is "nice".
We haven't visited Nice yet, but are booked for six nights at the end of October.
Since we haven't been to the Riviera I wanted a view. We booked Hotel Le Royal on the Promenade in a room with a balcony for 1900 Euro.
While not cheap, it certainly isn't expensive, and since it is only a few minutes from the Negresco, I assume the location is good.
Reviews are also good, so it might be something to look at.
We're staying at Hotel Victor Hugo 8n late September. Rick recommends it in his France guidebook. It's reasonably priced and has AC (according to its website). Plus there's a hotel dog!
We stayed in Hotel West End on the Promenade in May; it has a a lot of character as it is in the Belle Epoque style. Had a deluxe room with balcony overlooking the water on the top floor. Spacious modern updated room, very clean, wonderful breakfast, very quiet location, great staff, close to everything. They helped arrange airport transportation which worked out well.
FYI, we did a Food and Wine Tour with Nadia and it was fabulous! Highly recommended (by Rick as well)!
