Nice day trip options if trains to Tende and Entrevaux include bus rides

Apparently the lines from Nice to Tende and to Entrevaux are undergoing track work until 12 July 2018 so the trips now involve train and bus. We'll be in staying in Nice 3 - 9 July. The Nice/Tende trip is now 2 hr 17 min one way; Nice/Entrevaux is 1 hr 26 min one way. Trying to decided if either trip is worth it. 1) Original plan was Nice/Tende, a few hours in Tende, train to Sospel (to see maginot line fort), Sospel back to Nice. That will now be a 11.5 hour day, and would be a bit rushed in Sospel to see museum, have dinner, and catch train. 2) With Nice/Entrevaux, can arrive in Entrevaux at 10:46 am, but return is either around noon or 16:19. Not sure there is enough to do in Entrevaux to fill 6 hours. Wondering if anyone has thoughts on what to do, or suggestions for any other mountain-ish day trips. We don't want to rent a car, so at the mercy of bus and train schedules. Thanks!

Not sure this will be at all helpful:

Last year I took a day-trip to Entrevaux and Digne via the Chemin de Fer de Provence. The timing was challenging; I ended up with less than 2 hours ( probably more like 1-1.2 hours) at each stop, and I hit Entrevaux during the siesta period. That might not have mattered, because the day was extremely rainy, and sane people were hunkering down indoors. In any case, I don't know what I would have done for 6 hours in Entrvaux, which is medieval but small. I did enjoy the day, but the train ticket was rather costly on a per-mile basis.

Thanks! This is very helpful! Still not sure what we will do re Tende, but I think 6 hours in Entrevaux is off the list. :)
