Four of us will be spending 2 nights in Marseille next May and want a hotel that's comfortable and nice but not super pricey. We can handle a bit of posh but don't need 5 stars. A place in the Old Port is preferable. Any suggestions out there?
No specific suggestions, but Booking.com has several nice-looking places at reasonable prices (150-220 euros per room per night) in the Vieux Port. Take a look.
Check out the Escale Oceania or Carré Vieux Port.
A step up, the Radisson is very comfortable, but lacks charm. The Beauvau is great too, but can be expensive.
Another vote for Carre-Vieux. Stayed there in Sept., on the backside of facing the port itself, center of the "U". Very clean , professional, comfortable room, paid nice breakfast if you want, I did 2 of my 4 days. You can buy a metro, same price, from the front desk. Safe place. They have a nice website. Webcam on the roof, facing the port, so your back home fam can see you..lol.
Loving these suggestions. Merci bien!
My husband and I stayed at the Oceania Escale spring ‘22. The hotel is in a terrific location for restaurants, transit and walking to sites. The rooms were a mix of old world charm and business style, good-sized, uncluttered, simple furnishing but high ceilings and a sweet Juliette balcony with a peek-a-boo view. The comfortable bathroom had a large shower. The beds and pillows were a bit stiff for my taste.
Here’s my only real caveat - we were there on a weekend and that particular area of the old port can be lively and noisy on a Saturday night. If that’s a concern, I wonder if the Radisson, which I believe is down the port a bit, away from most of the action, might not be quieter?
We stayed at the Grand Hotel Beauveau. It was really nice and right on the port.
I also loved the Beauveau.
Maisons du Monde hotel isn't far
