Seeking tips of which train and destination(s) for 1-2 day trip in early April, considering likely weather (desire to avoid snow or slush ) and open sights. - aging walkers- ex hikers !
We took the Train des merveilles last week (February) as a day trip from Nice to Tende. There was no snow on the ground and temperature was in low 50’s. As a day trip we had limited time in Tende in order to catch the only train back (there may be more options in April). The town is very walkable and interesting. The train ride is more a wonder of engineering than in exceptional sights. We enjoyed the day. There a great kitchen shop near town square with a very joyful owner.
