My husband is on a business trip at Nice 2nd week of Dec 2015 and I am going with him. Any suggestion regarding sightseeing and nearby places I should visit while husband is working full day for the whole week? I am interested in some daytrips and pretty good on foot. What would be the ideal airline if fly out of Seattle?
The ideal airline would be the one that gets you there for the least amount of money. You might consider flying from Vancouver if the price is right.
There are tons of things to do and see in Nice. Museums? At least five. Great market place. Wonderful Eze Village to see. Short bus rides to Cannes and to Monaco. Look up "Nice tourism" for ideas, or invest in a guide book
Here are some suggestions of things to do on your own, while there:
The Christmas markets:
'Noël à Nice' - the 70+ stalls of the Nice Christmas Market is in Place Massena.
'Monte Carlo Christmas Village' - the Monaco Christmas market stretches along the port and offers light displays at the Palace and Casino.
When you take the bus to Monaco one day, also visit the aquarium. http://www.oceano.mc/en
Sign up for a perfume mixing workshop in Grasse (a regular bus goes there from Nice + taxi to Galimard from the bus station). E-mail them ahead of time and an English-speaking technician will be appointed to help you during the workshop. (Arrive having already figured out the name of your personal perfume creation, that you get to take home... great fun!) http://www.galimard.com/index.php/en/creez-votre-parfum/a-grasse.html
Take the train to Antibes and plan on spending the day exploring the many boutiques and visiting the Picasso Museum. http://www.antibesjuanlespins.com/en/art-et-culture/picasso-museum
Have fun!
Another vote for Antibes and the Picasso museum. Also, loved Eze, Monaco and the pretty Mediterranean town of Villefranche-sur-Mer.
My favorite day trip from Nice was to St Paul de Vence (by bus). Monaco was a close second (by train). Loved just hanging out around Nice. That was in the summer time but I think it might be even more fun during the holidays with the Christmas markets. Enjoy your trip.
An easy trip from Nice ( between Villefranche sur mer and Monaco ) is Cap Ferrat , where you will find the Villa Ephrussi Rothschild with a great story , art collection and gardens ( yes , I know it 's December ) also the village of St. Jean Cap Ferrat . The English author W. Somerset Maugham lived in Cap Ferrat for much of his life https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat . He once quipped that Monaco was " a sunny place for shady people " Watch this film of one of many of his short stories - " Gigolo and Gigolette " set in Monaco in 1935 https://youtu.be/f3jNiTHqMzQ
