New Year’s Eve in Paris

Hi all,

I posted this over at TA also, but thought I would post here as well.

My wife and I have dinner plans in the 6th already. We’re also staying in the 6th.

We’re not the type to spend the evening with 400,000 others on the Champs Elysee. We also recognize we need to be able to walk home from wherever we go and that probably limits us to the 6th, 7th, 4th, 3rd and 5th I think.

So we’re looking for thoughts on what to do on NYE after dinner. Are there rooftop bars? Can we sit on a bridge with a bottle of champagne and watch the Eiffel Tower light show?

Thanks in advance.

You can sit around the crowds outside or around the Trocadéro with a bottle of champagne and watch the Eiffel Tower light show.

The metro is free on New Year's eve in Paris so you don't have to walk.

Be careful though there is a lot of drinking and drunken rowdy folks out there after midnight.

The idea of standing on a distant bridge to watch the fireworks sounds appealing. Either Pont de l'Alma or Pont de Bir-Hakeim sound good. Pont de Grenelle gives you a good view of the Tower as well.
Enjoy your tip, 5 more months until my return.

Light show at the Eiffel Tower and Fireworks at the Arc De Triomphe some years.

Thank you all for the suggestions (especially the Bridges!)

Just a reminder, the public restrooms at the Eiffel tower close this evening so make sure you plan your restroom usage this way.
Also, sometimes certain streets are blocked. A few years ago my hotel was right down Place de Chaillot but the Pont d'Iena was blocked off---causing me to have to do quite a loop to get back to my hotel.
