New Year's Day in Paris

Going to be in Paris over the New Year's weekend.

Any recommendations? New Year's Eve? How crazy is it? Eiffel Tower a good place to be at midnight?

Anyone been to the parade the next morning? Where to stand, how early to get there? Is it crowded?

Thanks.

The Eiffel Tower is currently surrounded by wire fencing and soldiers are out in force. There's no guarantee - either due to weather or overcrowding - that you can get access. There won't be a fireworks show at the Eiffel Tower.
There will be a lot of people milling around, trying to sell champagne and trinkets - and pickpockets.

Most people head to the Champs-Elysees, where there are barricades and soldiers, but at least you can mingle with like-minded folks. No glass is permitted at either the Eiffel Tower or the Champs-Elysees. Be prepared to walk back to wherever you are staying.

There might or might not be a small light show at the Arc de Triomphe, but this hasn't been announced yet. There will be no fireworks.

I rang in the New Year there 2015 and 2016 at the same Jazz club called Sunset;
the band did a count down and knew the music and song Auld Lang Syne
the metro is free to ride from 18:00 and it is wild revelry after midnight given that it is legal to drink in the
streets (or the cops don't enforce) so be careful;
