Netherlands to Marseille & back

I need some suggestions! This is my first European adventure & I feel clueless...

My main flights are USA/Amsterdam. I'll be based in Eindhoven, & I want to visit a friend in Marseille for a few days before returning home. What is the best/cheapest/quickest way to get to Marseille & back?

To maximize my time, I'd like to leave Netherlands late on a Tuesday evening or early Wednesday morning for Marseille. On the return, I'll need to be back to Schiphol for a 10am flight.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! :D

Your other version of this question indicated you had checked some flights already, and I think the only practical option is to check more flights at www.skyscanner.com. Trains are not likely to be cheaper for that long ride, particularly since July travel dates have been on sale for a month or more.

KLM + Air France is the one company so all flights will be code share.

Amsterdam - Marseilles
2035 - 2225 or 0940 - 1130

Marseille - Amsterdam
1800 - 1955 and you will need an overnight hotel at Schiphol due to your early departure.

Ryanair has direct flights from Eindhoven to Marseille on Wednesdays, departure: 13:05h / arrival: 15:00h
There are direct flights from Marseille to Amsterdam, but also from Nice.

Thanks for all your suggestions! KLM won my business due to the variety of flights available. $150 RT isn't as cheap as RyanAir, but it gives me a late flight into Marseille on Wednesday & an early flight out on Saturday just in time to connect with my flight back to the States. That saves me on a night in a hotel AND & get 3 full days in Marseille!
