Neighborhoods: Latin Quarter or Opera

Greetings,

We are travelling to London then Paris in Jan. We'll have about 4 days in Paris and I'm trying to decide between hotels in the Opera or near the St. Michel or Odeon metro stations. I guess that's either the Latin Quarter/St. Germaine. I'm thinking they have two very different vibes and I just don't know what to do. Most of our museum and attraction visits are on the right bank. Husband and I are in our 60s and in decent health. Our 19 yo daughter will be with us and celebrating her 20th birthday so I'm also looking for something special to do for that.

If you have any advice that can help make my decision I appreciate it. Thanks so much.

I much prefer the area near the Odeon metro (the Quartier Odeon is distinct from the Quartier St. Germain) to either Opera or St. Michel. It’s a charming area. St. Michel is not far away but it’s just a little more hectic and more touristy and commercial. . Opera is convenient to many things but not nearly as charming IMO.

I would look at the metro map and decide based on where you plan to spend more time while in Paris. We've stayed in both areas, Latin quarter and St. Germain. We found in the Latin quarter that we had to take the green line and transfer to where we wanted to spend our time. Not a big deal, it's just a consideration. Our last trip we found that we walked and took buses more than the metro. We loved that even better as we could see more of the lovely Parisian landscape. We purchased a 1-week Navigo card and it worked everywhere.
