We'd like to spend a couple of weeks near the sea in Brittany in Sept. in a picturesque village or small town - somewhere not full of tourists. Recommendations appreciated. Julia
Quimper
Quiberon
Consider Belle-Ile which is an island off the coast near Quiberon.

Don't know what type of atmosphere you want, but the north coast is grayer, wetter, and cooler. The south coast is sunnier and attracts beachgoers.
In September there aren't a lot of tourists, although I would stay away from Quiberon, as there is only one road in and out, so if there's any traffic, you're out of luck. It's a tourist hotspot. Carnac has the megalith site, and a nice beach if you like having a boardwalk. More tourists there, too.
I personally prefer Paimpol and Perros-Guirec (& adjacent Trégastel) in the north, the Rose Granite coast, and there are a whole bunch of really nice villages/towns like Pouldu, Larmor Plage, Nevez and Trégunc in the south. Pont Aven, not far from the coast, is great for sightseeing, with lots of galleries, open even on Sundays (don't forget to try the chocolates and kouign amens at the shop with the chocolate clown in the window!). Concarneau, a large town or small city, has the ancient walled city area, very interesting. And for fantastic views and boulder scrambling, you can't beat Point du Raz and Crozon.
There are walking trails along all the coasts, so very easy to go from one small beach cove to another, or just hang out at a cafe watching the waves. There are a lot of B&B's, many owned and run by Brits, and I would choose one of them over a hotel.
Thanks to all of you for your helpful answers. Julia
